In 2019/20 we celebrate our 25th Anniversary Season at Bedford Corn Exchange with a thrilling programme. Highlights for the season include our new Principal Conductor Designate, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, returning to Bedford to start and close our season with ever-popular favourites including Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake and Sibelius's Fifth Symphony, our family concert celebrating all things Tokyo 2020, and our Principal Conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen returning to Bedford to conduct a programme of Mozart and Schumann.
At the heart of our residency in Bedford is an education programme that empowers people to engage with, and participate in, orchestral music. The programme includes our intergenerational creative music-making community project Hear and Now, which brings people living with dementia and their carers with young musicians.
In its most ambitious audience development project to date, the Philharmonia presented The Virtual Orchestra – a festival of digital installations, VR, workshops and community engagement, and fringe performances – in Bedford's Riverside Square in July and August 2018, engaging over 15,000 visitors across six weeks.
The Philharmonia’s 2019/20 season has been made possible thanks to the support of the Philharmonia Orchestra Bedford Trust, and its major partners Arts Council England, Bedford Borough Council and the Harpur Trust.
