Community Productions: The Bargee's Wife
Large-scale, one-off productions usually involve working in partnership with other arts organisations and music hubs in our residency communities. These projects are often tailored to respond to local needs.
Commissioned by Mind Song and the Three Choirs Festival, Gloucester, The Bargee’s Wife is a one-act opera by composer John O’Hara with a libretto from poet Karen Hayes, and inspired by the words of local people living with dementia. The premiere in Gloucester Cathedral in 2013 involved a 150+ choir, members of the Philharmonia Orchestra and soloists Barbara Dickinson, Claire Groom and Owen Webb.
