Esa-Pekka Salonen on Mahler's Third Symphony

“For 90 minutes you don’t have to think about anything else.”

Philharmonia Orchestra Principal Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen introduces Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, which he conducts on Sunday 1 October 2017 as part of the Philharmonia’s London season at Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre.

The symphonies of Mahler are an essential element of Esa-Pekka Salonen’s history with the Philharmonia, stretching back over three decades.

Salonen conducted Mahler’s Third Symphony in 1983 when he debuted with the Philharmonia, an experience we’ll feature in our next film, to be released 26 Sep.
