Esa-Pekka Salonen: Jean Sibelius & Finnish Independence (TRAILER)

The Finnish independence movement was not straightforward. For it to succeed, cultural leaders like composer Jean Sibelius were needed to help bring people together and unite behind a common cause. The Philharmonia Orchestra’s Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, Esa-Pekka Salonen, reflects on Sibelius’s role in the creation of a Finnish nation and identity.
