Kristin Hammerseth Associate Flute

Kristin was born in Sarpsborg, Norway and started playing the flute at the age of six. Shortly after, she gained a place at the Junior Department of the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo where she began her full-time studies in 2011.

Kristin soon became a busy freelancer and frequently works as a guest flautist with orchestras such as the Oslo Philharmonic, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, with whom she held the position of Principal Flute throughout the 2017/2018 season. She has also worked with the Arctic Philharmonic, Norwegian Wind Ensemble, the award-winning ensemble of contemporary music Cikada and with Oslo Baroque Orchestra.

Kristin appears regularly as a soloist and recently performed Reinecke's Flute Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Other recent solo performances include Mozart’s Flute Concertos and the Ibert Flute Concerto. In February of 2018 she performed Nielsen’s Flute Concerto at the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall.

Solo recitals have taken her to festivals and concert series across Norway and abroad such as the Arctic Arts Festival in Northern Norway, Victoria International Arts Festival in Malta and concert halls in Warsaw, Poland and Spain. Kristin has performed in masterclasses with some of the world’s leading flautists such as Sir James Galway, Denis Bouriakov, Philippe Bernold, Emily Beynon and Mathieu Dufour. In 2012 she won a scholarship which enabled her to study with Emmanuel Pahud in Quebec, Canada at the Domaine Forget International Music and Dance Academy.

Kristin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Flute Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music and she is a former guest student of Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where she studied with Philippe Boucly and Natalie Schwaabe.
