Bartók Divertimento for String Orchestra

Mozart Symphony No. 41, Jupiter, K551

The Philharmonia Orchestra closes the Wimbledon International Music Festival with a programme that explores the ‘Mathematical’ relationship to music. Bach relishes working out multiple fugues in his Ricercar from the Musical Offering; Bartok entertains with shifting rhythms and tonalities, and fugal writing in his delicious neo-classical Divertimento; and Mozart dazzles with a finale that contains a 5-voice fugue representing the five major themes of the symphony.
