Verdi Un giorno di regno Listen

Revel in Verdi’s world of intrigue, matchmaking and farce, in this comical tale of mistaken identity and troublesome love triangles. The Polish king has left France to reclaim his homeland, leaving a lowly French officer, Belfiore, to impersonate him in his absence. All seems well until two arranged marriages threaten to unravel…

One of just two comic operas Verdi wrote, Un giorno di regno features bubbling melodies and witty ensemble writing, starring Grant Doyle (The Skating Rink, 2018) as Belfiore and Christine Rice (Semele, 2017) as his lover, the Marchesa. Tobias Ringborg (Idomeneo, 2016) conducts in this Garsington debut production by Christopher Alden.
