Get closer to the music

Insight talks, discussions and social events around our concerts.

Three people sat on stage giving a talk

A Philharmonia concert is more than just the performance itself. Across the season, we invite audiences to explore the music, ideas and people behind our concerts through a wide range of free events and initiatives.

Our Insight Talks bring audiences closer to the music through conversations with conductors, soloists and our Featured Artists, offering fresh perspectives on the works being performed. Alongside these, our Philharmonia debates… series explore the wider themes surrounding our programme and the world around it.

Recent events have included a series of debates as part of the Philharmonia’s 80th anniversary celebrations, exploring big questions around music and identity including religion, gender and politics. During our 2024/25 Nordic Soundscapes series, audiences also joined conversations exploring Nordic culture, identity, nature and storytelling through music.

We are committed to making orchestral music welcoming and accessible to everyone. Through The Guest List, we invite people who have never experienced a live orchestral concert before to attend selected performances for free, helping new audiences discover classical music in an open and relaxed environment.

Our Philharmonia Social events create opportunities for audiences to connect with and meet our players before concerts, and to meet other audience members who share a curiosity and enthusiasm for live music.

Whether you want to deepen your understanding of the music, hear from artists, meet new people or simply try something new, there are many ways to get closer to the Philharmonia experience.
