The seventh CD release from Philharmonia Records: Santtu conducts Moscow, Cheryomushki & Shostakovich Symphony No. 1
The seventh release from Philharmonia Records, Moscow, Cheryomushki & Shostakovich: Symphony No. 1, available from 5 June
Santtu conducts Shostakovich: Moscow Cheryomushki and Symphony No. 1 is the seventh album from Philharmonia Records. Led by Santtu-Matias Rouvali, these performances were recorded live at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, where they are resident. The Philharmonia Orchestra has an extensive legacy of recording the music of Shostakovich, and in this latest release its Principal Conductor brings his own distinctive energy, precision, and flair to two contrasting masterpieces: the sharp-witted exuberance of Moscow Cheryomushki and the youthful brilliance of the First Symphony.
Accompanying the album is a booklet including articles on the Philharmonia and Shostakovich by Joanna Wyld, and in-depth articles about the music by Wendy Thompson and Sophie Rashbrook.
Santtu conducts Shostakovich: Symphony No. 1 and Moscow, Cheryomushki is produced by the Philharmonia in association with Signum Records, who will distribute throughout the UK and internationally. The album will be priced at £12.00 and will be released on 5 June 2026.
