The Philharmonia return to the BBC Proms to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States with an all-American celebration of the nation’s musical heritage, from the urban rhythms of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, to the evocative and expansive musical landscapes of Moross’s theme from The Big Country and Copland’s Appalachian Spring.
The Marcus Roberts Trio, who last dazzled Philharmonia audiences in 2023, reunite with the orchestra for Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue to bring the Golden Age of Jazz to the Royal Albert Hall. Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop conducts this survey of her homeland, opening the concert with Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, composed especially for her.
Broadcast on BBC TV and BBC iPlayer.
