Dvořák Symphony No. 7
Sunwook Kim joins the Philharmonia for one of the all-time greats of the piano repertoire.
Dvořák’s broodingly beautiful Symphony No. 7 completes the programme. Reflecting the political struggles of the Czech nation as well as personal grief, it’s the most compellingly urgent of his symphonies, the smouldering intensity of its opening catching fire in a thrilling mix of soaring melodies and driving rhythms.
This concert was originally advertised with piano soloist Daniil Trifonov and conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali. Due to continuing visa issues, Daniil Trifonov will be unable to perform with us on Wednesday 1 May. We are very grateful to Sunwook Kim for stepping in. Unfortunately Santtu-Matias Rouvali is unwell and will not be able to conduct. We are grateful to Alexandre Bloch for stepping in at short notice. The programme remains unchanged.
