Reich Drumming Part 1

The Philharmonia’s percussion section take centre stage as the Philharmonia Chamber Players celebrate the 90th birthday of the great American minimalist Steve Reich.

Reich’s works are shifting puzzles, with interlocking patterns and rhythms building towards each of these meditative masterpieces. From the pulses of Dance Patterns to the bright syncopation of Six Marimbas and the hypnotising loops and patterns of his African-influenced work Drumming, expect to be enthralled by one of minimalism’s most groundbreaking composers.

Pop in just for this 45-minute concert, or stay to hear more of Steve Reich’s work for the whole orchestra, in his great masterpiece Desert Music, alongside his contemporary John Adams’s iconic A short ride in a fast machine, conducted by Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali at 7.30pm (separate ticket required).
