During his musical education Sylvain has worked with violists such as Serge Collot, Igor Boguslavsky, Bruno Pasquier and Emile Cantor. In 2006 he began his studies with Tasso Adamopoulos at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon. In 2009, he spent a semester with Jutta Puchhammer-Sédillot at the Montreal University of Music on an exchange programme.

Between 2010 and 2023, Sylvain has been the violist of the Quatuor Varèse. The quartet studied in Madrid with Günter Pichler and have been awarded prizes at the Paolo Borciani (Reggio Emilia/2014), Mozart (Salzburg/2014), Hans Schaeuble (Zurich/2012) and Schubert (Graz/2012) international competitions for string quartet. The ensemble has toured in Europe, Japan, Québec and its first CD releases feature works by Ravel, Dutilleux, Adès, Beethoven, Debussy, Puccini and Dvořák.

Sylvain has performed in the section of orchestras such as the Royal Flemish Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine and more recently with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House and the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg (Guest Principal).

In November 2018 Sylvain joined the viola section of the Philharmonia Orchestra.
