David López Ibáñez
2nd Violin
David López Ibáñez is a member of the 2nd violin section of the Philharmonia Orchestra.
David López Ibáñez is a Spanish violinist from Castillo de Locubín (Andalucía) who has been based in London since 2013. In 2020 they graduated with an Artist Diploma at the Royal College of Music in London. At this institution they learned period violin with Lucy Russell and previously studied modern violin with Detlef Hahn and Radu Blidar. From 2019 to 2021 David was part of Lorenza Borrani´s class in Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.
David was a Chamber Music Fellow at the Royal Academy of Music with the Hill Quartet from 2020-2022 and has participated in festivals around the UK and Ireland, including West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival and the North York Moors Chamber Music Festival. They have played chamber concerts in Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Kings Place and Conway Hall.
David received the Ian Stoutzker Award from the European Union Youth Orchestra, leading the second violins in 2019, and they were awarded the Isolde Mendes Unaccompanied Bach Prize at the RCM Violin Competition in 2018.
David joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in 2021, and they have been invited to lead the Bath Festival Orchestra, the second violins of the Haydn Philharmonie and the second violins in Spira Mirabilis. David is a member of the Explore Ensemble with whom they record and perform contemporary music, with appearances at Wigmore Hall in 2022 and 2023. In 2022 they took part in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe Academy.
David plays on a Lorenzo Carcassi violin made in 1740 in Florence, kindly on loan from Mr. Sebastian Kutscha.
