Maura Marinucci

Maura holds the position of Joint Principal Clarinet with the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Maura Marinucci joined the Philharmonia Orchestra in September 2023, having held the position of Principal Clarinet with the Brussels Philharmonic for the previous four years.

After receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Italy at the age of 17, Maura studied with Alessandro Carbonare at the Accademia Santa Cecilia in Rome and received her Master’s degree in Music Performance in the class of François Benda at Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano in 2016.

Maura has always wanted to become an orchestral musician. She has played with many youth orchestras such as the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (doing both the Easter and Summer tour in 2017 as Principal Clarinet), the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and 2016 as Bass and E-flat clarinet, and the Animato Orchestra in the 2016 European tour. She is regularly invited as Guest Principal Clarinet with many orchestras, such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ulster Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie (Brussels), Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Orchestra del Teatro di San Carlo (Naples) and many others.

Maura plays chamber music with many different groups, travelling across Europe with both classical and contemporary repertoire.

Maura also loves teaching; she was clarinet teacher at the conservatoires of Novara and Pescara. She has been invited to teach masterclasses in Italy, Belgium, Wales, and the US.

She is an ambassador for the clarinet manufacturer Henri SELMER Paris, and she is currently playing two ‘Selmer Muse’ clarinets after having played ‘Selmer Privilege’ for 8 years.

In her free time, she’s a tango dancer, and whenever she can she travels to attend tango workshops and festivals across Europe. She enjoys cooking (not always with the best results), doing yoga and Pilates, and walking around discovering London and other cities during her travels.
