Meet Terry Davies
What’s your job?
I’m a conductor.
Did you want this job when you were a child, or something else?
I wanted to drive trains.
How did you learn to do your job?
I had conducting lessons and whenever I played in an orchestra I carefully watched what the conductors were doing.
What is the best thing about it?
Travelling to interesting places and working with many musicians.
What is the hardest thing about it?
Concentrating!
Do you play any instruments?
I play the piano and I am also a composer.
What was your favourite song or piece when you were a child?
There were so many! Perhaps the Arabian Dance from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite because I could just about play it on the piano – and I loved Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.
If you could be a character from any fairy tale, what would it be, and why?
Aladdin! Who wouldn’t want a genie and a magic carpet?
What is your favourite story by Roald Dahl?
Matilda.
