Throughout the Philharmonia’s 80th birthday year, the orchestra explores some big questions around music and identity – come and have your say.
This evening’s session paves the way for a performance of Laura Karpman’s opera Balls, about the 1973 ‘Battle of the Sexes’ tennis match won by Billie Jean King. Figures from within the music world and beyond investigate how far orchestral music has come in the journey towards gender equity; and what the orchestral world can learn from sport and other industries about fostering equality while avoiding tokenism.
