Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet, excerpts
The Philharmonia returns to Snape Maltings with a stirring programme, conducted by Anu Tali. Arvo Pärt’s ethereal and haunting tribute to Britten acts as the prelude to Tchaikovsky’s wonderful ballet score. Full of dark twists, anguish and music fit for a grand ball, it is irresistibly moving. Closing the concert are highlights from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, with music of great drama and emotion telling the story of the young lovers and their tragic fate.
