Born in Catarroja (Spain) in 2001, trombonist Pau Hernández is currently enrolled in a Master of Performance course at the Royal College of Music as a holder of the ABRSM EU Postgraduate Scholarship. He moved to London in 2019 to study a Bachelor of Music at the RCM with professors Lindsay Shilling, Byron Fulcher, Matthew Knight and Rebecca Smith; eventually graduating with honours in July 2023 thanks to the support of the Dolly Knowles Charitable Trust Award and an RCM Scholarship.
Pau has been a trialist for the job of Principal Trombone nº2 of the Ulster Orchestra and has performed for other ensembles such as the London Sinfonietta or the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra. Furthermore, he is a versatile musician that enjoys different sides of the music industry: he was awarded the 2nd Prize in the Sackbut Competition of the British Trombone Society in 2022 and this season he will take part in the London Musical Theatre Orchestra Development Scheme after having been played in many musical theatre productions for companies like Geoids Musical Theatre, SEDOS or Centre Stage London.
Aside from his career as a trombonist, Pau has a keen interest in other aspects of the classical music industry. Between 2020 and 2023, he ran a podcast in Spanish focused on music history, harmony and general musical dissemination called Conocimientos Musicales, that quickly stablished itself as one of the most-heard shows about the topic and welcomed guests like conductor Rafael Payare, composer Fernando Velázquez or soprano Isabel Rey. During the 2023/2024 season, Pau was chosen to participate in the ENO Response Scheme, and his reviews about that year’s productions can be found in the ENO website.
