This January, the Philharmonia Orchestra sets out on an exciting European tour, joining forces with violinist, Alena Baeva, and our Principal Conductor, Santtu-Matias Rouvali.
The tour opens in Brussels before travelling to Frankfurt, Freiburg, Munich, Vienna, Essen and Dortmund. At the heart of each performance is Sibelius’s En Saga, a symphonic poem steeped in mystery and atmosphere, perfectly suited to Rouvali’s acclaimed interpretations of the composer’s work. Alena Baeva takes centre stage in Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 and the programme concludes with Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances, the composer’s final masterpiece, in which he looks back with nostalgia to his Russian roots.
This tour brings the Philharmonia’s distinctive sound to some of Europe’s most prestigious concert halls.
Please note change of artist: due to her ongoing recovery from a double pinched nerve, Hilary Hahn is no longer able to join us for this performance. We are very grateful to Alena Baeva for stepping in at short notice.
