Imogen Davies
Oboe
Imogen Davies is the No. 2 Oboe of the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Imogen Davies began her musical studies at Chetham’s School of Music at the age of eight. Imogen spent her first five years at Chetham’s as a chorister in Manchester Cathedral Choir before becoming a first study oboist, learning with Rachael Clegg. During her time at Chetham’s, Imogen won several prizes both for academic and musical achievement and in 2014 joined the National Youth Orchestra where she was co-principal oboe.
In September 2014, Imogen moved to London to study oboe with Christopher Cowie and Ian Hardwick, and cor anglais with Sue Bohling at the Royal Academy of Music. As well as receiving scholarships to support her studies, Imogen won the Leila Bull Oboe Prize and the Grimaldi Cor Anglais Prize whilst at the Academy. Imogen took part in the LSO Wind Academy in 2015 and was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester from 2016-2017, taking part in three tours with the orchestra.
She graduated with First Class Honours in 2018 and then continued her studies at postgraduate level at the Academy, supported by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and Help Musicians UK. Alongside her studies in 2019, Imogen was a Foyle Future First artist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She graduated with Distinction and a Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music.
Imogen began freelancing across the UK in 2018 and joined the Philharmonia as No.2 Oboe in October 2021. She continues to enjoy playing as a guest with orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Sinfonia of London.
Whenever she has the chance, Imogen loves to travel. Her most adventurous holidays include visits to Kenya, Vietnam, Mauritius, Thailand and Peru.
The No. 2 Oboe Chair is endowed by Michael Stott.
