How to apply

To apply, you will need to fill out our application form. The form will ask about your interest and motivations for the programme and an orchestral career, as well as previous experiences of working in an orchestral setting.

We warmly welcome applications from composers of all backgrounds and are particularly committed to supporting composers from underrepresented demographics, such as women, those from the Global Majority, and those who are disabled.

What we offer

  • Composers will each receive a fee of £3,000 to support the costs of attending the programme activities and producing the commissioned composition
  • A series of masterclasses and workshops covering advanced composition technique, industry insights, and advice from professional musicians and contemporary composers
  • 1:1 support throughout the programme from a Composers’ Academy mentor
  • Your commission to be performed at a world-renowned concert hall

Application requirements

Alongside the application form, you are asked to provide:

  • Links to three compositions (both sound file and score)
  • A cover letter (maximum 1,500 words)
  • Website and/or social media handles

Eligiblity

  • Please note, this opportunity is not open to those studying at Undergraduate or Master’s level
  • Composers working towards a PhD are welcome to apply
  • This opportunity is only available to those aged 18 and above
  • We are unlikely to appoint applicants who are long-standing or established composers as this programme is designed to support those in the early stages of their career
  • Applicants must be UK residents, and you must be in the UK during the substantive parts of the programme
