Dvořák Symphony No. 7
‘This was Beethoven the eternal modern and revolutionary in all his fire and glory…’ (The Guardian). In his decades-long career, Pierre-Laurent Aimard has earned a reputation as one of the most respected interpreters of Beethoven’s music. Tonight, he treats us to a performance of the Third Piano Concerto. The opening movement brims with intensity, followed by a serene slow movement packed with yearning melodies. Complete with a dance-filled finale, this is a true masterpiece.
Closing the programme is one of Dvořák’s best loved works: his Seventh Symphony. It’s full of lyrical Bohemian spirit and bursting with melodies. Tender personal moments contrast with passages of intense drama – Dvořák wrote that his symphony’s themes were “Love, God and Fatherland”.
