Tchaikovsky Piano Trio

Enjoy a performance of Tchaikovsky’s moving Piano Trio by members of the Philharmonia Orchestra, in the striking setting of the Pavilion Gallery at Cromwell Place. Your ticket includes a glass of prosecco or non-alcoholic equivalent, and entry to all the exhibition spaces at Cromwell Place. The galleries will remain open for you to visit before the performance begins.

Tchaikovsky composed his Piano Trio (a piece of chamber music for violin, cello and piano) in memory of his friend and mentor Nikolai Rubinstein. Rubinstein was a multitalented musician – composer, conductor and pianist.

Tchaikovsky honoured him with a work that demands huge technical skill as well as emotional expression from all three players, but especially the pianist. The piece is in two large scale sections: an elegiac first movement and a virtuosic set of variations ending with a heartbroken funeral march.
