Garsington Opera is the Philharmonia’s summer home. We spend our summers in the stunning Wormsley Estate, set in the natural beauty of the Chiltern Hills, performing operas that are of the highest artistic quality. The experience of Garsington is not just the outstanding performances – which have become some of the best this country has to offer – but the exquisite experience of country house opera at its finest. As a Philharmonia Patron recently said, at Garsington, you just know that everything is going to be done right.
We invite you to join us for a new production of Verdi’s La traviata, an opera whose romance, drama and tragedy resounds through the centuries. As Violetta Valéry navigates the last months of her life, she must choose between hedonism and self-sacrifice, escaping then returning to the city that made her and will eventually destroy her. Verdi’s impassioned portrait of a celebrated courtesan remains one of the most powerful stories of nineteenth century Parisian society: of decadence, disease, and selfless love.
The 90-minute long dinner interval is a central feature of an evening at Garsington Opera. We have secured a private tent overlooking Wormsley Cricket Ground for Philharmonia supporters to enjoy a catered picnic dinner.
Includes:
- A top price ticket to La traviata at Garsington Opera
- A “traditional picnic” dinner in a private tent, including wines
- Optional transport between High Wycombe Station and Garsington Opera
