Vidya Patel, our Artist in Residence for the 2024/25 season, premieres a new work with Philharmonia musicians for the finale of Inspirate’s festival, An Indian Summer 2025.
Through her residency with the Orchestra, Vidya Patel has worked with collaborators Shammi Pithia to create an original score, and spatial designer Shankho Chaudhuri for this new work: A Bride’s Woven Plea.
Through dance, live music and space, A Bride’s Woven Plea unravels and reweaves the stories of women, plaited through time, migration, and memory. Taking inspiration from the act of plaiting, this work honours the resilience and complexity of women who carry their homes within them through migration, and through the untying and retying of their own identities to weave knowledge, ritual and tradition into the landscape of British culture as we see it today.
