If a Rothko painting could make music, what would it sound like? Santtu-Matias Rouvali rehearses for the UK premiere of music by Featured Composer Anna Clyne that is inspired by Orange, Red, Yellow, among two great works of the Romantic repertoire by Brahms and Dvořák.
This rehearsal and concert originally featured Lars Vogt in Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Lars was diagnosed with cancer in February 2021, and continued to perform and record throughout his treatment. He died on 5 September 2022, and will be sorely missed by all who knew and worked with him. We would like to dedicate tonight’s concert to his memory. We are very grateful to Igor Levit for stepping in.

Open Rehearsals are not performances. Playing may be paused at various intervals in order for the conductor, soloist and orchestra to agree on specific styles and dynamics.
Open rehearsals will take place in the auditorium where the concert is due to be performed, unless otherwise specified. Times and repertoire being rehearsed will be confirmed prior to the rehearsal date, as these schedules are subject to change.
