Toes will be tapping at this free concert by members of our second violin section, featuring arrangements of jazz standards and more.

Our series Let Freedom Ring traces the influence of American jazz and folk music on classical and popular music, opera and music theatre. This chamber concert is a microcosm of the whole series, embracing the sounds of 1930s cabaret, Argentinian tango, and the nightclubs of New York.

Kurt Weill’s wind band, Piazzolla’s classical guitars, Duke Ellington’s jazz piano and the era-defining voices of Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett are all evoked by the virtuosic violinists of the Philharmonia, joined by their colleague Gareth Sheppard on bass.
