The Philharmonia embarks on an eight-date tour across some of the most esteemed concert venues in Europe.
Starting in Amsterdam at the Concertgebouw and ending in Vienna’s world-famous Musikverein, the Orchestra and Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali travel through Belgium, Germany and Switzerland in a mixed programme featuring music by Rachmaninov, Beethoven and Shostakovich.
Pianists Bruce Liu and Rudolf Buchbinder join the Orchestra and Santtu on the tour. Liu performs Rachmaninov’s luscious Second Piano Concerto, while Buchbinder is the soloist in Beethoven’s mighty ‘Emperor’ Concerto. Please see dates for each performer below.
Each programme closes with Shostakovich’s masterful Symphony No. 10, apart from our opening concert, in which Santtu conducts music by his compatriot Sibelius and an overture by Danish composer Carl Nielsen.
