The Philharmonia Orchestra celebrates its 80th anniversary with a major 10-date tour across the East and West Coasts of America.
Our Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali leads the tour, joined by Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, the Philharmonia’s Featured Artist in the 2025/26 season. Together, they perform a range of repertoire including music by Beethoven, Ravel, Sibelius, Shostakovich and Gabriela Ortiz – the Philharmonia’s Featured Composer next season.
Principal Guest Conductor Marin Alsop conducts two concerts on the tour. The Philharmonia’s renowned sound comes to the fore in two orchestral masterpieces: Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. And enjoy Prokofiev’s most popular piano concerto in the hands of French pianist Alexandre Kantorow.
Our tour culminates in two performances at New York’s iconic Carnegie Hall with both conductors and soloists. Both Santtu and Marin’s concerts nod to the programmes conducted by Herbert von Karajan when he conducted the Philharmonia’s debut at Carnegie Hall 70 years ago, as part of the Orchestra’s 10th birthday celebrations.
The Philharmonia Orchestra’s 80th Anniversary Tour to the United States is supported by a leading gift from Kate and Andrew Davis, through a grant from the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund. Additional major support is provided by Board Members of the Philharmonia Foundation USA and American Patrons of the Philharmonia, including Matthew and Severa Hurlock, William and Sharon Jacob, William and Serena Lese and Rob and Betsy Pitts.
The Philharmonia is grateful to all donors to and patrons of the Philharmonia Foundation for their support of this tour.
