Featured Artist
Our Featured Artist Programme offers the chance for young musicians to work with world-class musicians.

About the project
The Philharmonia’s Featured Artist programme sees the Orchestra work with a world-renowned musician over the course of a season, performing concerts in London and across our residencies in Leicester, Bedford, Canterbury, and Basingstoke.
In addition to concerts across the season, our Featured Artist will also be involved in our Learning & Engagement work to support and inspire young musicians by offering an exciting programme of workshops, masterclasses, and performances led by world-class musicians. The programme looks to encourage young musicians to pursue life-long learning by working closely with professionals.
“It was such a wonderful experience and amazing opportunity to play with professional musicians and to meet and play with Sheku.”

Key features
Our Featured Artist programme provides an exciting selection of repertoire chosen by our Featured Artist for that year.
A series of workshops are delivered by members of the Philharmonia to prepare young musicians for a public performance.
The programme culminates in a performance opportunity at a world-renowned venue such as the Southbank Centre in London.
Suitable for a wide range of learners as each year we provide a tailored programme for a wide range of young instrumentalists of all ages and abilities.
Delivered in partnership with music hubs, we work closely with our music hubs to provide an exciting programme to support their instrumental learning.
We provide a resource pack to help support the learning of the repertoire and encourage both independent learning and support music tutors and teachers.
Featured Artist 2022/23
For our Featured Artist programme in 2022/23, we worked closely with world-renowned cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason. Following a series of workshops delivered by Philharmonia musicians across our partner music hubs in London, over 100 young musicians had the opportunity to perform alongside Sheku and Philharmonia musicians at the Southbank Centre.
In addition to the performance, they received expert coaching and advice to inspire and guide the young learners on their musical journey. The programme is suitable for all young string players from Grade 2-8.
