Programme

Vaughan Williams Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis

Vaughan Williams Sancta Civitas

— Interval —

Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the great British composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, we join forces with the Oxford Bach Choir.

Opening with the much-loved Fantasia on a Theme of Tallis, followed by the oratorio Sancta Civitas, makes for a memorable evening, not least because it will be performed in the very building where it was first heard almost a century ago.

The cantata Dona Nobis Pacem closes the programme. A deeply moving piece, it is filled with foreboding for another war, but also hopes of a happier future.
