Philharmonia Orchestra tours to China this month

Lan Shui conducting

In December 2023, the Philharmonia will be the first UK orchestra to embark on a large-scale, multi-date tour to China, since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Philharmonia Orchestra’s seven-date tour of China will see the Orchestra visit state of the art venues including Shenzhen Concert Hall, Guangzhou Opera House and Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) – marking their first time there since 2019. The Philharmonia will also become the first orchestra to perform publicly at Beijing’s newly opened Performing Arts Centre.

With concerts beginning on 29 December, the Orchestra is joined by conductor Lan Shui and pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet in repertoire spanning Mozart to Mendelssohn.

Thorben Dittes, Chief Executive, Philharmonia Orchestra said: Following a successful return to European touring over the last season, it is wonderful to now see overseas markets like China reopen post-pandemic.”
