We open the 2023 Bold Tendencies Live Programme with Holst’s The Planets.
A spectacular astrological portrait of the celestial world, each movement is named after a planet in the solar system and its supposed character. From the dramatic opening, Mars, the Bringer of War to the well-loved tune in Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Holst’s suite shows off the range of sound worlds of the orchestra. A wordless female chorus singing from outer space over orchestra, harp and organ brings the piece to an ethereal end.
At the helm is award-winning young Finnish conductor, Emilia Hoving.
