Take the best seat in the house, on stage in front of Esa-Pekka Salonen, in this free virtual reality experience with the Philharmonia Orchestra. The virtual reality Philharmonia returns for the opening weekend of the 2017/18 Classical Season, and for the Nordic Days weekend.
Once more, visitors can put on virtual reality headsets and headphones to be whisked out onto the South Bank, backstage into Royal Festival Hall, then on stage in the centre of the orchestra as Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts a performance of Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony. A truly 360-degree experience, recorded with 3D audio and video, it allows you to hear the nuances of the orchestra’s sound as you turn your head to watch the orchestra performing all around you.
New for 2017/18, Sibelius 360 offers a longer-form VR presentation with the full third movement of Sibelius’ Symphony No.5, along with some exclusive scenes shot outside Royal Festival Hall. There are two films of 15 minutes and 4.5 minutes duration.
The Virtual Orchestra: Sibelius 360 is produced through a partnership between the Philharmonia Orchestra, Inition, Music Sales and Southbank Centre. The project was conceived by the Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen. This presentation is presented in partnership between Philharmonia Orchestra and Southbank Centre as part of Nordic Music Days.
